About the Land Rover brand
Land Rover is a British automotive brand headquartered in Gaydon, Warwickshire, and part of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a subsidiary of Tata Motors. Known globally for its off road heritage and engineering excellence, Land Rover has built a reputation for combining rugged capability with refined luxury. Its core model families- Range Rover, Discovery, and Defender- remain central to the brand's identity as it transitions toward electrification under JLR's Reimagine strategy.
Land Rover's electrification plan focuses on gradually transforming its lineup into a range of plug in hybrid and fully electric vehicles while preserving the off road performance that defines the brand. The first phase of this transformation introduced several PHEV models, including the Range Rover P440e, Range Rover Sport P510e, and Defender 110 P400e. These vehicles pair efficient turbocharged engines with high capacity battery packs, offering electric only ranges of up to 120 kilometers while retaining full four wheel drive capability.
The brand's first fully electric model, the Range Rover Electric, is scheduled for launch in 2025. Built on the MLA Flex architecture, it will deliver quiet, torque rich all terrain performance with zero tailpipe emissions. The Range Rover Electric will set the benchmark for the brand's next generation vehicles, integrating advanced battery technology, software defined controls, and intelligent terrain response systems. Following it will be the Defender Electric and an all new electric Discovery, completing Land Rover's electrified core lineup by the late 2020s.
Land Rover is also investing heavily in software and digitalization through JLR's House of Brands model, which separates Land Rover's identity into distinct sub lines- Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery- while maintaining shared technology across platforms. Future EVs will feature JLR's in house Electric Drive Units and next generation batteries supplied by Tata's new European gigafactory, enhancing both range and energy efficiency. Vehicle interiors will emphasize sustainable luxury, using recycled textiles, natural fibers, and low carbon materials.
In addition to consumer vehicles, Land Rover continues to develop electric and hybrid systems for specialized markets such as defense, expeditions, and humanitarian operations, leveraging its unmatched off road capability in a cleaner, more sustainable form.
Electrification Status
Land Rover is a transitioning manufacturer evolving from hybrid and plug in hybrid models toward a fully electric lineup. The upcoming Range Rover Electric will mark the beginning of the brand's zero emission era, combining its legacy of durability and adventure with cutting edge electrification and digital performance.
