About the Lexus brand
Lexus is the luxury division of Toyota Motor Corporation, headquartered in Nagoya, Japan, and one of the world's most recognized premium automotive brands. Since its founding in 1989, Lexus has built a reputation for quality, refinement, and reliability. In recent years, the company has embarked on an ambitious transformation toward full electrification under its global strategy known as Lexus Electrified, which aims to make the brand entirely battery electric by 2035.
Lexus began its electrification journey earlier than most premium manufacturers through its pioneering hybrid systems, first introduced with the RX 400h in 2005. Today, nearly every Lexus model offers a hybrid or plug in hybrid variant, establishing a foundation for its shift to fully electric powertrains. The brand's first dedicated BEV, the RZ 450e, launched in 2023 as a midsize luxury SUV built on Toyota's e-TNGA platform, shared with the Toyota bZ4X. The RZ features dual motor all wheel drive, steer by wire technology, and a minimalist interior designed around Lexus's "Tazuna" driver centric philosophy.
Looking forward, Lexus is developing an entirely new family of EVs based on the next generation LFA-inspired electric platform that will debut in 2026. This new architecture is designed for modularity, supporting sedans, SUVs, and performance coupes with ranges exceeding 700 kilometers. A key feature will be direct four-wheel drive control, allowing precise torque vectoring and dynamic handling. The company has also announced plans for next generation solid state batteries and gigacasting manufacturing techniques to reduce vehicle complexity and cost.
Lexus has previewed its upcoming design and technology direction through several concepts, including the LF-Z Electrified and LF-ZC. These models emphasize aerodynamic purity, digital personalization, and sustainable materials. The LF-ZC, unveiled in 2023, previews a production sedan expected by 2026, while a high performance grand touring coupe inspired by the LFA supercar will follow later in the decade.
Beyond hardware, Lexus is expanding its digital ecosystem through Lexus Interface and cloud based connected services, integrating voice interaction, OTA software updates, and intelligent energy management. The brand's electrification strategy also aligns with Toyota's broader push for renewable energy sourcing and closed loop battery recycling.
Pure Electric Identity
Lexus is transitioning toward becoming a pure play electric automaker. With the RZ 450e as its first production BEV and a full lineup of next generation electric vehicles under development, Lexus is combining its heritage of craftsmanship, performance, and quiet luxury with advanced zero emission technology to define the future of premium electric mobility.
