About the Mercedes-Benz brand
Mercedes-Benz is a German luxury and performance automaker headquartered in Stuttgart and a core brand of the Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Founded in 1926, it is one of the world's most iconic automotive marques and a leader in design, safety, and technological innovation. Today, Mercedes-Benz is rapidly transitioning toward a fully electric future, guided by its global strategy "Electric Only", which commits the brand to offering all new vehicle architectures as battery electric from 2025 onward.
The company's dedicated electric lineup is marketed under the EQ sub-brand, introduced in 2019. The current portfolio includes the EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, EQE SUV, EQS, and EQS SUV, spanning compact crossovers to flagship luxury sedans. These models are built on Mercedes-Benz's EVA2 platform, offering ranges of up to 780 kilometers (WLTP), 400-volt charging architecture, and advanced in-house electric powertrains. Interiors feature the brand's signature MBUX Hyperscreen system- a full-width curved glass display powered by AI-driven personalization and OTA software updates.
In parallel, Mercedes-Benz is developing its next generation MB.EA (Modular Architecture for Electric Vehicles), AMG.EA (for high-performance models), and VAN.EA (for commercial and passenger vans). These platforms will underpin all future electric vehicles across the brand's portfolio, enabling faster charging (800-volt systems), greater efficiency, and simplified modular production. The company has already announced that the next-generation C-Class and GLC-class replacements will be EV-only, marking the start of the full brand transition.
Flagship electric models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan and EQS SUV showcase advanced aerodynamics, ultra-efficient drivetrains, and luxury refinement. The AMG EQS 53 and AMG EQE bring high-performance electrification to the AMG division, featuring dual-motor systems delivering up to 560 kW (761 hp) and AMG-specific torque vectoring. Meanwhile, concept vehicles such as the VISION EQXX demonstrate the brand's efficiency leadership- achieving over 1,000 km of real-world range on a single charge through extreme lightweighting, aerodynamics, and silicon-carbide power electronics.
Mercedes-Benz is also deeply invested in vertical integration for batteries and software. Its Mercedes-Benz Drive System (MB.DS) strategy consolidates in-house development of motors, inverters, and battery management systems. The company partners with ACC (Automotive Cells Company) and CATL for cell supply while planning multiple gigafactories in Europe and North America. Sustainability remains a central pillar- all new production sites are designed for CO?-neutral operations and closed-loop battery recycling.
Beyond passenger vehicles, Mercedes is electrifying its commercial range through Mercedes-Benz Vans and the eSprinter, as well as high-performance segments under Mercedes-AMG and ultra-luxury through Mercedes-Maybach. The Maybach EQS 680 SUV marks the entry of the Maybach brand into the electric era, combining zero-emission luxury with handcrafted interiors and exclusive digital experiences.
Electrification Status
Mercedes-Benz is a transitioning luxury automaker advancing rapidly toward a fully battery electric portfolio. With the EQ family leading today and the MB.EA and AMG.EA architectures defining its next generation, Mercedes is uniting craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability to lead the premium electric mobility era.
