About the McMurtry brand

McMurtry Automotive is a British electric performance car manufacturer headquartered in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom. Founded in 2016 by Sir David McMurtry, co-founder of Renishaw PLC, the company focuses exclusively on developing ultra-lightweight, high-performance electric vehicles that push the boundaries of engineering and aerodynamics. McMurtry's mission is to showcase how intelligent design, compact packaging, and advanced electric propulsion can deliver unmatched driving performance without emissions.

The brand gained global recognition with the debut of the McMurtry Speirling, an all-electric single-seat fan car unveiled in 2021. The Speirling (Irish for "thunderstorm") employs an innovative ground-effect fan system that generates over 2,000 kilograms of downforce from a standstill, enabling cornering performance that exceeds Formula 1 levels. Weighing less than 1,000 kilograms and powered by dual electric motors, the Speirling achieves 0 to 100 km/h in under 1.5 seconds and a top speed exceeding 240 km/h. Its 60 kWh battery supports short-duration track use with extreme energy delivery efficiency.

In 2022, the Speirling set the all-time Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb record, completing the course in 39.08 seconds- faster than any combustion or electric vehicle before it. This record cemented McMurtry's reputation as one of the most advanced performance EV developers in the world. The company later announced the Speirling PURE, a track-only production version limited to 100 units, offering customers a near-identical experience to the record-breaking prototype with simplified maintenance and race-ready telemetry support.

McMurtry Automotive continues to focus on compact, efficient design and scalable technology that could extend beyond track-specific cars into broader performance applications. The company's research emphasizes ultra-high-power electric drive systems, compact cooling integration, and fan-assisted aerodynamics- areas that could influence future high-performance and motorsport EVs globally.

Pure Electric Identity

McMurtry is a pure-play electric automaker, developing all vehicles and technologies exclusively for zero-emission performance. Through innovations like the Speirling fan-car architecture, McMurtry is redefining what is physically possible for lightweight, electrically driven vehicles and setting new global benchmarks for acceleration and handling in the electric age.
