Independent EV clubs are a Western early-adopter institution; in China the owner community is run by the automakers

The US list is built on chapters of the Electric Auto Association, renamed the Electric Vehicle Association, plus Drive Electric groups and single-model clubs for the Nissan Leaf, BMW i3 and Chevrolet Volt. Norway's Norsk Elbilforening is the largest national owner association in Europe. In China, NIO runs owner events through the NIO App and its NIO House showrooms, and other Chinese makers run app communities the same way, so independent clubs are rare.

Clubs remain the quickest way for a new owner to learn about home charging, road trips and service in a given area. Many run Drive Electric Week events each fall with Plug In America and the Electric Vehicle Association, and chapters push for workplace and apartment charging at city councils and utility commissions. Club lists go stale fast: groups move from websites to Facebook, chapters merge and forum groups lapse. The tables list 87 clubs and associations in 11 countries, with each club's platform and status; rows marked unverified have not been rechecked recently.
