About the Polestar brand

Polestar is a Swedish premium electric vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, jointly owned by Volvo Cars and its parent company, Geely Holding Group. Originally established in the 1990s as Volvo's motorsport and performance partner, Polestar was relaunched in 2017 as a standalone brand dedicated exclusively to high-performance, design-driven electric mobility. The company's mission is to merge sustainability, innovation, and Scandinavian minimalism into a forward-looking electric brand that blends performance with environmental responsibility.

Polestar's first production model, the Polestar 1 (2019-2021), was a limited-production plug-in hybrid GT with 609 hp and an all-electric range of 124 kilometers (WLTP)- one of the longest of any PHEV at the time. It served as a technological showcase and bridge to Polestar's fully electric future. The brand's first pure BEV, the Polestar 2, launched in 2020, established Polestar as a serious competitor in the premium EV segment. Built on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) co-developed with Volvo, the Polestar 2 offers single- and dual-motor configurations, ranges up to 654 kilometers (WLTP), and software based on Google's Android Automotive OS- a first in the industry.

Polestar has since evolved into a fully electric performance brand with a growing global lineup. The Polestar 3, launched in 2024, is a large luxury SUV built on Volvo's SPA2 platform, shared with the Volvo EX90. It features dual motors producing up to 380 kW (517 hp), a 111 kWh battery, and a range of around 610 kilometers (WLTP). The interior combines sustainable materials such as bio-based composites and recycled textiles with the brand's signature minimalist design. The Polestar 4, a coupe-SUV positioned below the 3, removes the rear window entirely in favor of a full digital rearview display- demonstrating Polestar's commitment to design experimentation and aerodynamic efficiency.

Looking ahead, Polestar is expanding into new segments with the Polestar 5 and Polestar 6. The Polestar 5, inspired by the Precept concept, is a four-door electric GT that debuts the company's in-house bonded aluminum chassis for improved rigidity and lightness. It will feature up to 650 kW (884 hp) of output and cutting-edge 800-volt electrical architecture. The Polestar 6, an electric roadster, will bring open-top performance to the brand's lineup using the same advanced platform. Both vehicles highlight Polestar's evolution into a true performance-luxury manufacturer.

Polestar operates assembly and R&D centers across China, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, with production of the Polestar 3 and 4 in China and future models planned for Europe and North America. The company is also investing heavily in sustainability, targeting carbon-neutral vehicle manufacturing by 2030 through its "Polestar 0 Project," which aims to eliminate, not offset, all emissions from the supply chain and production processes.

As part of the Geely-Volvo ecosystem, Polestar benefits from shared technology, global logistics, and established safety expertise while maintaining its own design, branding, and direct-to-consumer sales model. The brand's vehicles are sold primarily online, reflecting its digital-first approach to the customer experience.
