BYD sold 4.6 million new-energy vehicles in 2025, about half of them battery-electric, and exported more than one million as domestic sales slowed
BYD's battery-electric sales passed Tesla's in 2025. Overseas sales roughly doubled to about 1.05 million, and BYD has set a higher overseas target for 2026 while a price war and a crowded market cut into its share at home.
The advantage is vertical integration. FinDreams Battery makes the Blade LFP cell and packs, FinDreams Power makes motors and electric drive units, and BYD Semiconductor makes IGBT and silicon carbide power modules, so BYD buys far less from outside suppliers than Western OEMs do. FinDreams is also the world's second-largest EV battery maker after CATL and sells Blade cells to other automakers.
BYD is now localizing assembly to get past tariffs: Thailand, Brazil and Uzbekistan operate, Hungary and Indonesia start in 2026, and Turkey is planned. It also leads globally in electric buses, builds grid storage from its own cells, and launched megawatt-class flash charging with its Super e-Platform in 2025.
