About Firefly
Firefly is an electric vehicle brand under NIO Group, developed to serve the entry level and compact EV segment. Officially launched in 2025, Firefly represents the third tier of NIO's multi brand strategy alongside the premium NIO brand and the mid market Onvo (formerly Alps) division. The brand is positioned to deliver high quality, intelligent, and affordable electric mobility tailored for urban users in both Europe and China.
Firefly's first production model, a compact hatchback designed primarily for the European market, entered production in early 2025. The vehicle is built on a dedicated small vehicle EV platform derived from NIO's in house technology, offering long range efficiency, battery swap capability, and advanced digital integration. It features NIO's latest smart cockpit system, adaptive driver assistance, and full connectivity through over the air updates. Production is based at NIO's facility in Anhui Province, with exports initially focused on key European markets such as Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
The Firefly brand emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and affordability while maintaining NIO's core strengths in technology and user experience. Vehicles are marketed through NIO's direct sales model, using digital platforms for ordering, ownership, and charging or swap station access. The brand also benefits from NIO's expanding European service and charging infrastructure, providing customers with seamless energy and connectivity support.
Through Firefly, NIO extends its reach into the mass market, complementing its luxury and mid range offerings with a scalable urban EV platform. The brand competes directly with compact EVs such as the BYD Seagull, Volkswagen ID.2all, and Renault 5 E Tech, reflecting NIO's commitment to broadening zero emission mobility across multiple price segments and geographies.
Pure Electric Identity
Firefly is a pure play electric automaker, developing all vehicles and technologies exclusively for zero emission mobility. Built on dedicated EV platforms without combustion legacy constraints, Firefly combines efficiency, digital innovation, and accessibility to deliver a fully electric driving experience for urban and compact segments.
